President’s report

My term as EdANZ branch president will end at our next annual branch meeting. I’ve enjoyed serving in different roles on the EdANZ committee over the last few years. I’m so glad Caroline Simpson AE nudged me to join the committee as the branch’s budget officer. I’m not a “numbers person”, but Caroline trusted me to wrangle the budget spreadsheets, and I’m grateful for that!
This year IPEd celebrates its 10th anniversary. In the IPEd at 10: Conversations with editors page, I talk about how community is a key part of the editing profession. Being on the EdANZ committee has been just one part of my editing community, but one of my highlights.
Committee work has given me the benefit of learning who I can refer clients to. I’ve made connections that enable me to refer projects to editors better suited to the work. I’ve also found myself editing all sorts of content I wouldn’t otherwise have had the opportunity to work on.
Each of us brings different skills and experiences to our committee roles. This allows us to generate ideas for the branch and connect widely across the industry. EdANZ members are active on several IPEd committees. They bring their experience and knowledge of Aotearoa New Zealand editing to those committees, advocating for our members and the specifics of our country. I get to read their updates and see all the work they’re doing behind the scenes.

We’ll have a few changes to the committee arising from the annual branch meeting. We’ll be sharing details of these soon.
