Meet the Editors Queensland committee: executive committee member, Jeni Lewington

Jeni Lewington worked as an anthropologist in Kalgoorlie (WA), as a librarian at the State Library of Queensland and in variousgovernment libraries before medical issues forced her to accept a TPD [total and permanent disability] in 2012. Undeterred, she completed her third degree (a Graduate Diploma in Editing and Publishing from the University of Southern Queensland) in 2013 and has been working as the principal editor of her sole trader business, The Editing Edge, ever since.
Jeni spent several years as the training coordinator for Editors Queensland and is currently an executive committee member; she also manages the Eds Q Facebook page.
“In my spare time I love playing scrabble, streaming movies and TV shows, reading, observing nature and going on the Steel Taipan at Dreamworld. I live by the motto ‘If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito’ [Dalai Lama],” she says.
“I have experienced the successful collective action of this motto twice so far in my life: first in securing 4 more seasons of the brilliant Australian drama A place to call home following its cancellation after 2 seasons, and second in helping to free Julian Assange, both campaigns in which I was heavily involved.”
Jeni loves being involved in, and contributing to, the editing profession. She has a unique perspective, as someone who cannot speak and is in a wheelchair, but that fact rarely prevents her from doing what she likes doing. Her bucket list includes going to the Redhead Days Festival in Ireland and skydiving. Who said editors were boring?
