IPEd Transition

i

Results of the transition vote

On 17 November 2015, the member societies of IPEd passed a special resolution to support the transition of IPEd to a national direct membership organisation representing Australian editors.

This vote followed transition ballots by the societies with four out of seven societies passing the resolution. Each society was allocated a number of votes according to its membership number at 31 May 2015 and voted according to its members’ ballot result. This vote resulted in 82% of votes for the resolution.

Further details of the vote are available on the following pages:

The new structure of IPEd, managed through a national office, will provide and administer a membership and event management system, and branches will be relieved of the administration of membership records, subscriptions, the editorial services directory or freelance register, and all accounting and banking work.

A national executive officer will play a major role in advocating on behalf of, and representing, the national membership of editors to industry sectors and government.

The voting process for societies choosing to hold a second ballot

The three societies of editors that did not pass the resolution were the Canberra Society of Editors (CSE), Society of Editors (WA) and Society of Editors (TAS). However, these societies may hold a second ballot before 3 April 2016 to determine if their members would like to join the new national organisation on the transition date of 1 July 2016. Alternatively, members will be able to join IPEd as individuals after the transition date.

If you are a member of one of those societies you will be advised of when and where you may vote on whether your society should approve the IPEd Transition Plan.  Please read that information carefully and then participate in the vote.
