Meet the Committee: Roslyn Copas AE, EdsQ Affiliates Liaison

Roslyn is a Queensland-based member of IPEd, and the current affiliates liaison for EdsQ. This role explores opportunities to connect with other organisations and events that could be relevant to editors in Queensland.

Roslyn is active in the Sunshine Coast regional group and believes these groups are a great way to share ideas and camaraderie with other editors out in real life. She is also a longtime member of ANZSI (the Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers), Queensland Writers Centre and Plain Language Association International.

She has been an editor for more than 30 years, a member of IPEd/Society of Editors for more than 20 years. Along the way, she did a Master of Arts in Writing, Editing and Publishing at the University of Queensland, and faced the challenge of the first accreditation exam in 2008.

“I have mostly worked in government, educational and corporate editing, including in-house roles and as a self-employed subcontractor. I believe that editing is for the endlessly curious, plus you get addicted to meeting deadlines and the thrill of helping writers bring useful messages into the world.”

Alongside her volunteering activities for IPEd, she is the book volunteer for the flourishing free book exchange and community book club at the North Shore Community Centre in Mudjimba.

Her business, AusVoc Educational Publishing, specialises in supporting teams writing educational, technical and research publications for aid and development programs in the Pacific and Southeast Asia. These publications can cover health, education, environment/climate, governance, energy transition, and disaster resilience. She has also helped authors of works of local history, memoir, children’s fiction, and professional and personal development.
