IPEd

From the Editors NSW committee

The Editors NSW committee was delighted to learn that branch member Julie Ganner AE is IPEd’s Janet Mackenzie medallist for 2025. It is fitting recognition for an editor who has long supported IPEd and the editing profession at large.

Julie is rightly known for her groundbreaking work on print accessibility, the impact of which is reaching far beyond Australian shores. We have celebrated the success of Books without barriers and other projects with her in recent years.

For now, though, we would like to celebrate the many years of service that Julie has given to IPEd and to Editors NSW in particular. Her commitment to our branch can be traced all the way back to its days as the Society of Editors (NSW) Inc., and she has carried off key roles such as president and secretary with noted aplomb.

When Julie stepped down as branch president in August 2024, we wondered how we could possibly fill the gap she was leaving behind. She ran a tight ship during committee meetings (which, admittedly, some of us are yet to replicate!) and steered the branch through both calm and stormy waters. Luckily, the committee continues to benefit from the processes she helped to establish.

To Julie, we say thank you for all your guidance and dedication over the years, not to mention the untold hours of sheer hard work. Editors NSW is indebted to you and congratulations on your Janet Mackenzie Medal – we couldn’t think of a more deserving recipient.
