IPEd

From the committee

By Carolyn Page AE

The Editors NSW committee met via Zoom on 10 June 2025, with 9 in attendance. The chair welcomed Emily Halloran AE, who is coming on board as the branch’s new Accreditation Board delegate and (in absentia) Isaac McCook, as the branch’s new Zoom support assistant. This was the third meeting of the committee on its new 2-monthly schedule. In light of the IPEd Board’s strategic planning session (to be held in July), members resolved to defer this year’s annual branch meeting (ABM) until Tuesday 4 November 2025. This will allow the committee time to clarify the requirements and any changes for ABMs.

The importance of branch presentations was again affirmed, both as a way of building the professional capability of members and as a source of income for IPEd. A recent presentation by Dr Guy Windsor, an authority on medieval and Renaissance martial arts, was very successful. A presentation by Emmanuelle Botté on “A journey into scientific editing” has now been scheduled for 2 September 2025. The committee heard a report on the potential for Anne Edwards’ presentation on “Government editing work” to be expanded to become a seminar. Several interesting ideas for future presentations were discussed.

Ways to engage members will be a subject for further discussion, including addressing the accessibility of workshops and events. Members look forward to the IPEd Conference in July and expressed hope that registrations for this event will be an opportunity to recruit new members.
