IPEd

IPEd members are invited to join the Residential Editorial Program (REP), a training program for mid-career editors looking to enhance their literary editing skills through intensive workshops with highly experienced and respected industry practitioners.

Applications are also welcomed from managing and commissioning editors seeking to refresh their skills. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply, including people who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disability. Two scholarships are available to First Nations editors.

Led by mentors, 15 editors in three groups attend daily sessions during which they workshop an unpublished manuscript currently in production. The program also includes a range of workshops and presentations on relevant topics, delivered by guest speakers.

At the end of the week, the editor of the workshopped manuscript discusses with participants the key decisions and changes made in the editing process.

The program is designed to complement the Beatrice Davis Editorial Fellowship and recognizes editors’ need for mentorships, professional collaboration and advanced training.

Administered by the Australian Publishers Association and supported by the Australia Council and the publishing industry, the REP aims to enhance the standard of writing published in Australia by:
● identifying and developing the professional skills of literary editors
● enabling interaction and building networks between editors
● raising the profile of editors in the literary and publishing community
● encouraging editors to establish and maintain good working relationships with authors
● teaching editors to recognise and balance the commitment to their authors with their publisher’s business expectations.

The 2022 REP is from Monday 21 February to Thursday 24 February 2022 at Q Station, 1 North Head Scenic Drive, Manly NSW. Participants will be chosen by the organising committee on the basis of their applications. Participants or their employers will be expected to contribute to the cost of the program.

Applications close at 5pm AEST on Monday 6 December 2021. Successful applicants will be notified by 17 December.
