From the President

Welcome to 2022!
I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and good spirits. There will be both relief and anxiety for those with children going back to school, with kids (or themselves) resuming other studies, returning to workplaces or just reconnecting with projects and commitments after a summer lull. Sadly, for too many members, the summer has included a spell in isolation, being unwell or supporting loved ones with COVID-19. But a new year awaits. All available limbs and digits are crossed that it’s a calmer one.
It seems a little premature to set resolutions, with much still unsettled. But the psychologists tell us that this traditional spur for some reappraisal and (realistic) goal setting can be a valuable opportunity. With that in mind, I’ve enjoyed looking through forthcoming IPEd and branch offerings and picking the brains of some fellow members about professional development.
Our committee has taken a short break. We resume our monthly meetings in February. In the meantime, work on new projects and confirming forthcoming activities continues. You can read about some of those in this newsletter.

Professional development

Welcome to 2022! We hope you’ve enjoyed a rest over the holiday season.
Alas, in the interests of public health, we have again put on hold our plans of returning to face-to-face training in Melbourne. Our February course, Jackey Coyle’s “Dance steps to reboot your freelance practice”, has been postponed indefinitely.
We will continue to watch developments, but for the moment we are planning further online courses – keep your eye on your emails. If you see something you like, register without delay, as these always fill up quickly.
Please do let us know what courses you are most interested in, whether it’s business skills (such as an online version of “Dance steps”), technology, editing skills, editing various genres, or any other areas. We are always keen to get your feedback.
