IPEd

From the President

Hi all

Our Annual Branch Meeting (ABM) is upon us and we’re calling for nominations for the Editors Qld management committee. I’ve sent out the papers and the committee roles, but if you didn’t see that or if you want to throw your hat in the ring, please let me know. You can contact me via edqld.president@iped-editors.org. Being on the committee is an excellent way to contribute to our professional body and get some decent networking in too.

Even if you can’t commit to being on the committee, there are other ways you can contribute to the branch and to IPEd. We’re always looking for contributions to the newsletter, whether that’s writing up the speaker report from the monthly member meeting or writing an article about some aspect of your editing career, experience, quirks of language, whatever you think will interest similarly minded people. Or, you can contact me or Julia (edqld.news@iped-editors.org) to be profiled for the newsletter.

Our Zoom member meetings have been such a success the committee has decided we’ll keep them up for the remainder of 2020 (which also saves us having to fill in the COVIDsafe events checklist every month). A huge bonus of the online events has been welcoming attendees from regional Queensland, other branches, and even Canada and Thailand. So at least something good is coming from the waking nightmare that is 2020. An enormous thank you to our amazing events team, Lee Ellwood and Ian Mathieson, who have more than risen to the challenges of events in a COVID world. For the rest of us, online events are easier, but for the organisers they’re trickier in some ways. It would have been very easy to say we’d wait out the pandemic and not have events, but we are grateful for the dedication of Lee and Ian in supporting the membership so wonderfully. Thank you both.

The August member meeting is replaced by our ABM, but we’re thrilled to have UQP editor Jacqueline Blanchard as our guest speaker. Jacqueline was the winner of the inaugural Rosie Award in 2017.

As this is the last newsletter before our ABM, I want to thank our Editors Qld management committee for 2019–20. They are amazing and passionate and it’s been an absolute pleasure working with them all.

See you at the ABM.
