Expressions of interest sought

IPEd Professional Member Joan Rosenthal is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from members who may be qualified to take on some or all of her client portfolio as she transitions to retirement.

Joan’s editing is mainly in the field of engineering for university academic researchers whose first language is not English.

She has no engineering qualifications, but tells clients her role is to help them produce publishable academic English expression — their job is to ensure the professional soundness of their research.

However, Joan says qualifications in an engineering-related field would be advantageous to the editors.

The work is mainly journal papers, conference presentations, grant applications and book chapters. Clients format their work for publication and are responsible for referencing, although Joan runs her eye over reference lists and draws clients’ attention to any anomalies. She says the manuscripts often need to be massaged into Australian, UK or US styles for publication.

Most authors are academics at various levels, with a few masters or doctoral students. Most are employed in Australian universities or have had their undergraduate careers in Australia.

Most projects are single jobs but some work is allocated prepaid sums to cover several publications over an agreed period. Some authors make payment arrangements with Joan directly but most pay through their universities, so permission is required for editors to become suppliers to the respective universities.

Joan says her clients ‘are agreeable people, easy to work with’.

If you are interested, please send an EOI to Joan directly — joanr@ozemail.com.au. For more information, you can phone her on 0422 988 653.
