Entries for the 2027 IPEd Student Prize close on Monday 9 November 2026.
The prize recognises excellent work by a student of editing. It’s open to any tertiary-level student enrolled in an editing or publishing course at a New Zealand or Australian tertiary institution in 2026, including students who finished their studies at the end of the first semester. Entries can include edited manuscripts, editing portfolios, research papers or other assessed work relevant to the editing profession, completed as part of the student’s course.
The winner receives $500, a one-year IPEd membership, a dictionary and a style guide or manual of their choice, a copy of The Editor’s Companion by Janet Mackenzie, and a two-day online course from Biotext, “Writing and editing complex content”, valued at $594.
Last year’s winner, Josephine Parker, a Master of Arts (Professional Writing and Publishing) student at Curtin University, put it simply: entering “made me realise how much an editor can genuinely improve a book.”
If you know a student editor who hasn’t entered yet, now’s the time to nudge them. Entries close Monday 9 November 2026 at 6 pm AEDT / 8 pm NZDT. The full guidelines, including how to enter, are on the IPEd website.
