The 2026 renewal cycle

This year, 84 AEs from 3 cohorts renewed their accreditation:

  • 24 passed the exam in 2011 and were renewing for the third time
  • 21 passed the exam in 2016 and were renewing for the second time
  • 39 passed the exam in 2021 and were renewing for the first time.

And they renewed from all over Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand:

  • 3 in Aotearoa New Zealand (4%)
  • 11 in the Australian Capital Territory (13%)
  • 17 in New South Wales (20%)
  • 9 in Queensland (11%)
  • 8 in South Australia (10%)
  • 2 in Tasmania (2%)
  • 27 in Victoria (32%)
  • 7 in Western Australia (8%).

Of the 125 AEs eligible to renew, 33% chose not to. Usually, editors choose not to renew their accreditation when they retire or move on to other exciting careers.

Thank you to everyone who renewed their accreditation, sent us feedback about the renewal process, assessed renewal applications or designed the renewal certificates.

The 2027 renewal cycle

Next year, it’s your turn to renew if you passed the exam in 2012 or 2022. But what information will you need to share with us?

Information for section A of the accreditation renewal form:

  • ABN if you are self-employed
  • employer’s name and contact information if you are an employee
  • start date of current employment (can be approximate)
  • details of 5 editorial projects (start/end dates, your role, name of employer or client, ISBN if a book, URL if online).

Information for section B of the accreditation renewal form:

Details of at least 1 professional development (PD) activity (dates, name of course/workshop etc., your role) in at least 3 of the following categories:

  • tertiary courses relevant to editing
  • IPEd training
  • other industry training
  • mentoring
  • conferences
  • contributions to IPEd or other relevant professional organisations
  • any other PD not covered by the other categories.

To help you prepare, you can track your professional practice and development in an Excel spreadsheet. You don’t need to share the spreadsheet with us – it’s just a tool to speed up your application when it’s time. Find the spreadsheet on the IPEd website, under Renewal requirements.
