Brisbane editors’ annual picnic

On Saturday 11 April, editors and friends around Greater Brisbane gathered at our annual picnic social event. To remember the morning, we invited a couple of attendees to share their experiences.

The picnic was the perfect way to spend a Saturday morning: warm weather and warm conversation in a lovely natural setting. It was good to catch up with familiar people and meet new editors and their partners and hear their stories (and of course share food). The annual picnic is a cherished tradition.

On a quintessential Queensland morning, we gathered on wooden benches under a tin roof, surrounded by the beautiful bushland of Mount Coo-tha and the smell of onions caramelising on the BBQ. The only thing better than the setting – the company. From across Greater Brisbane came editors of fiction, nonfiction and communications; editors launching their business and editors winding back for retirement; structural editors, copyeditors and proofreaders; and a few non-editing partners and friends who love the industry.

The smiles and nonstop chatter throughout the morning go to show that editors are, in fact, highly social creatures. It’s not about being introverted or extroverted; it’s about finding your people.

EdsQ looks forward to hosting the next social event to help connect these and more editors around Brisbane. Editors across the state also enjoy similar events in subregions including the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba and Far North Queensland.
