President’s report

By Deborah Shaw

Kia ora,

Welcome to 2026. I hope you had a restful break over the Christmas and New Year period and your year is off to a good start. We’ve certainly been dealt a few curve balls so far, especially the upper North Island’s rain and flooding.

I also hope you achieve any goals you’ve set for yourself, your business if you’re freelance, or your team if you’re in-house. I’ve been revisiting some of my favourite editing craft books, and I’m looking forward to attending more workshops and speaker events this year.

For Waitangi Day reading, check out the excellent collection from Bridget Williams Books. While not specific to the Treaty, I can highly recommend Slowing the sun by Nadine Hura. I saw her speak at the Dunedin Readers & Writers Festival last year and just loved how she spoke.

If you’re looking for a way to contribute to IPEd and EdANZ, then do consider becoming our branch newsletter coordinator. You’ll be editing my updates for Gatherings and coordinating with EdANZ contributors. The time commitment is around 5 hours per month. This is a great opportunity if you’re a newer editor wanting an encouraging space to develop your editing and make connections with EdANZ members. Established editors are most welcome, too. Email me at edanz.president@iped-editors.org and we can chat.

Ngā mihi,
Deborah
