Sunshine Coast connections

By Glenine Hamlyn AE, vice-president, Editors Queensland

About 4 times a year, the Sunshine Coast subgroup of Editors Queensland meets on a Saturday morning over coffee and brunch to refresh existing connections, forge new ones and provide mutual support. On Saturday 6 September, we gathered in the small town of Pomona, taking in the local market before retiring to a coffee shop. Nine of us made it that day. Having joined the group only 18 months ago, I am pleased to see that already I feel I know these other editors better and can turn to them for support if I need to.

Conversation at our latest meet-up covered questions about the recent IPEd Conference, sources of information, dealing with AI, tips and tricks of the trade and much else. It can be very supportive to share an experience – be it uplifting, frustrating, annoying or encouraging – and know that others understand.

If you would like to find out whether there are editors near you, we may be able to help. Please contact our president, Kyla Jo Magin, at edqld.president@iped-editors.org.

If you are on the Sunshine Coast and not in touch with the subgroup there, contact our trusty coordinator, Lisa Hill, on edqld.sunshine@iped-editors.org to be added to the email list.

And don’t forget: on Wednesday 5 November at 6.45 pm (AEDT), Editors Queensland will be hosting another online speaker meeting. Tonia Grundy AE will tell us all about editing audio material. Bookings are open now.
