IPEd

By Dr Rhonda Daniels AE, Pay and Conditions Standing Committee

IPEd’s Pay and Conditions Standing Committee (PCSC) has recently updated the fair hourly pay rates for self-employed editors.

The fair hourly pay rates provide guidance to self-employed editors and their clients. They represent the rates a professional self-employed editor in Australia needs to charge to ensure a sustainable, long-term business.

Price is a business negotiation between the client and editor based on a range of factors. Editors may charge higher or lower hourly rates. Please read the explanatory notes on the website.

Information on the assumptions and calculations about the fair hourly pay rates is provided for members in the member portal.

It includes the following useful resources:

  1. Working conditions for self-employed editors
  2. Equivalent employee salary income
  3. Business expenses
  4. Billable and non-billable work time
  5. Calculations for hourly pay rates
  6. Other resources on pay rates.

Following the updates to the fair hourly pay rates, the indicative costs of academic editing for potential clients have also been updated. The updated costs and explanatory notes are on the IPEd website.
