IPEd

From the Accreditation Board

’Twas the year before accreditation, when all through IPEd, visions of invigilators and candidates danced in their heads.

Another exam year is coming, and the Accreditation Board (AB) has written volunteers on its holiday wish list for the 2026 IPEd accreditation exam, scheduled for Monday 24 August. The AB couldn’t run the exam without volunteers, so please consider helping out!

Volunteering is a great way to:

  • meet other editors in your branch
  • give back to the editing industry
  • fulfil one of three professional development criteria for accreditation renewal.

All exam volunteers must be accredited or distinguished editors (AEs or DEs). If you don’t hold one of these titles but would like to volunteer, contact the AB chair (ab.chair@iped-editors.org) to discuss how you might be able to help.

Volunteers receive a small honorarium for invigilating in-person or online on exam day. For more information and a position description, please email the AB chair: ab.chair@iped-editors.org.

Venue invigilators

  • We might need up to at least 16 venue invigilators. We aim to have a minimum of 2 invigilators per venue.
  • The exam venues may be in any of the following locations, depending on candidate numbers:
    • Adelaide
    • Brisbane
    • Canberra
    • Hobart
    • Melbourne
    • Perth
    • Sydney
    • Wellington or Auckland.

Online invigilators

  • We aim to have at least 10 remote invigilators.
    • We need one invigilator per candidate.
    • Ideally, each invigilator and candidate pair will be in the same time zone and use the same operating system (Windows or Mac).

What invigilators need to do

  • All invigilators need to:
    • be comfortable operating computers (and troubleshooting)
    • attend training and briefing sessions via Zoom a few weeks before exam day (Monday 24 August 2026)
    • read all documentation and instructions well before exam day.
  • Venue invigilators need to attend their chosen venue between 12 noon (or earlier) and 5.30 pm on exam day and perform their required duties.
  • Lead venue invigilators need to complete a short post-exam report.
  • Remote invigilators need to:
    • schedule a practice session with their candidate before the exam
    • be available from 12 noon to 5.30 pm (in their candidate’s time zone) on exam day to perform their required duties
    • complete a short post-exam report.

To express your interest in volunteering, please contact your branch AB delegate or the AB chair (ab.chair@iped-editors.org).
