From the committee
By Carolyn Page AE
The Editors NSW committee met via Zoom on Tuesday 14 October 2025, with 7 in attendance. Editors NSW Committee meetings continue to be held every 2 months. Meeting chair Justine Dixon Cooper AE welcomed Keely Mewett, who will serve as our professional development officer with Kiara Thomas.
The meeting focused on 2 ongoing topics: presentations and membership.
A recent presentation on scientific editing by Dr Emmanuelle Botté ELS was praised, but attendance was down on usual numbers. The upcoming presentation by Emeritus Professor Pam Peters DE HLM on “The Americanization of world Englishes”, scheduled for 4 November, was already attracting strong bookings. A topic for future discussion (and for a possible future presentation) was legal editing and the use of AI.
The committee noted IPEd membership reports and discussed actions that might address non-renewals. These included analysis of reasons for people not renewing their membership, and the timing of annual renewal payments.
Planning for the December dinner is in hand, and a booking will be made with Foys Kirribilli.
Bookings are now open for the Editors NSW end-of-year dinner on Tuesday 2 December 2025.
Networking event report: Chippendale lunch
By Ruth Power
On Tuesday 23 September 2025, 7 editors and friends braved a brisk spring breeze to gather for lunch at Andiamo Trattoria in Chippendale: Sally Asnicar (host), Lindy Ferris, Dr Rhonda Daniels AE, Louise Scahill AE, Jennifer Mosher, Rosemary Mulray and Ruth Power.
We tucked into a selection of delicious Italian fare including “wedding soup”. As well as catching up on where we are at in our editing careers and life goals, conversation covered a variety of topics.
One that was front of mind was the effect AI is having on editors’ work and workload, and on clients and potential clients. There were also IPEd-related discussions, including speculation about which branch will host the next conference!
We enjoyed the conviviality of our fellow editors, both working and semi-retired, and look forward to our next gathering.
