IPEd

From the committee

By Paul Anderson and Russell Noakes

The EdNSW committee met on 11 October for its monthly meeting via Zoom, with four apologies.

Minutes of the September committee meeting were accepted and actions from previous meetings reviewed.

Written reports received included:

  • Accreditation Board delegate
  • branch budget commentary
  • IPEd Board update
  • member liaison
  • member networking
  • mentoring
  • news editor and Communications and Style Standing Committee delegate.

Our speaker presentation on 4 October was on Commonwealth Government departments’ use of editors. David Seale of the Commonwealth Department of Education provided a lot of information for external editors who are looking to get a foot in the door with the Australian Public Service. He went through, in his own words, “the good, the bad, and the ugly”, and amusingly shared a couple of his most embarrassing errors as an editor. Thank you, David.

Our next speaker presentation will be on 7 February 2023. This will be a panel discussion on “How to grow one’s freelance editing business”.

We may have had our last speaker presentation for 2022, but there are social events to look forward to before the year ends. Please check your email for details of upcoming editors’ lunches and a drinks night.

And save the date – our annual end-of-year dinner event will be on 6 December, when we will return to Foys Kirribilli in the Sydney Flying Squadron club.

The next committee meeting is scheduled for 8 November 2022.
