Have you got a workshop or presentation up your sleeve (or an idea for one) about challenges and opportunities facing the editing profession? Perhaps you’re currently undertaking research that you’d like to present before a captive online international audience?
We’re welcoming submissions for our 2023 IPEd Editing Conference on the theme “Futureproofing the editing profession”.
We’ll be inviting attendees from our sister organisations of Editors Canada, Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (UK) and the Professional Editors Guild (South Africa).
Our conference is in early May 2023
The online conference will happen over two weeks in May 2023. This may change as we get closer to the conference but we will keep you up to date:
- 2–5 May (Tuesday to Friday)
- 8–11 May (Monday to Thursday).
The conference’s main sessions and workshops will happen over four hours each day: 1 pm–5 pm NZST, 11 am–3 pm AEST, 10.30 am–2.30 pm ACST, and 9 am–1 pm AWST.
Our conference offers you an opportunity
Here’s your chance to:

- connect with people from a range of backgrounds and countries.
Allow 30 minutes to present your research papers or topical presentation
Session presenters will receive a super earlybird discount of 25% on conference tickets (A$230 for IPEd members; A$170 at a super earlybird rate).
Allow 3 hours to deliver a workshop or professional development session
Workshop presenters will receive A$800.
We have extended the deadline for abstracts to Monday, 26 September 2022.
Here is a list of what to include in your submission
- a statement about whether you’d like to present a paper or a workshop
- the name of your preferred stream (see below)
- the title of your paper or workshop, of no more than 20 words
- your name (and your business or employer name if appropriate)
- your abstract or your idea, of no more than 400 words
- a short bio about you, of no more than 100 words
- your email address and phone number (and your preferred method of contact).
If you don’t have an abstract ready, please include a description or your idea for your workshop or paper.
As you write your submission, please keep in mind “futureproofing the editing profession”, your preferred stream and the audience for your paper or workshop.
Please make sure your file size is no more than 1MB. If you need to include images (such as for a workshop), please use a thumbnail resolution to avoid submitting a large file.
How to submit your abstract
- submit your abstract as a PDF
- email your abstract to firstname.lastname@example.org
- use the format “[your name]-2023 conference abstract” in the email’s subject line.
We need to receive your abstract by Monday, 26 September 2022.
In October, you will know whether your submission has been accepted
If your abstract is accepted, your final paper is due by 14 April 2023.
