IPEd

From the Accreditation Board

The Accreditation Board (AB) is seeking a new member to replace our esteemed Editors NSW delegate, Dr Lou Merrington AE, whose two-year term ended in April.

Lou was a highly valued member of the AB who advocated for improved accessibility of the IPEd accreditation exam and support for neurodivergent editors. In particular, Lou helped analyse the results of the AB’s 2023 survey of non-accredited IPEd members on barriers to sitting the exam and made valuable suggestions for further improvements in our accreditation procedures. She was also an invigilator for the 2024 exam in Sydney.

Thank you, Lou, for your contribution to the AB, and we know you’ll continue your advocacy work as chair of IPEd’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Working Party.

With Lou’s departure, the AB now seeks a new member to fill the role of Editors NSW delegate. You don’t have to be a member of Editors NSW to undertake this role, although it would be preferable. AB delegates are appointed by each branch and generally serve a two-year term. Under IPEd’s constitution, such appointment makes the delegate an ex officio member of the branch committee – ex officio means “by virtue of office or official position”, making the delegate an unelected but full member of the branch committee with full voting rights. However, the delegate’s primary responsibility is to the AB, not the branch.

Delegate duties include:

  • attending monthly AB meetings by video conference to discuss policies, processes, planning and budgeting for accreditation exams and renewal of accreditation
  • reporting to their branch committee on developments in IPEd accreditation and renewal of accreditation
  • circulating to AB colleagues any questions or concerns raised for discussion by the branch committee and other members of their branch
  • passing on the AB’s views on these matters to the branch committee or individual concerned
  • publicising and advocating for the accreditation exam within their branch
  • helping to compile and update AB documentation as required, including reports and procedures manuals
  • overseeing the invigilation of accreditation exams for their branch
  • assisting with exam administration work, as required
  • completing renewal of accreditation assessments for existing AEs (a fee is paid by IPEd for this work).

If you are a current AE and are interested in this role or would like more information, please contact the AB chair, Charlotte Cottier AE, at ab.chair@iped-editors.org.
