From the Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers 

The Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers (ANZSI) is offering scholarships of AUD$1,000 to eligible applicants for enrolment in, and completion of, an approved indexing course. One year of ANZSI membership will also be provided to the successful recipient/s.

This free course, written and run by an experienced indexer and course developer, is for people interested in exploring an indexing career as well as for authors and editors who work with indexers.

Eligibility criteria

You must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • be ready to start your indexing studies, in the approved course, within four months of the scholarship being awarded
  • own, or have unlimited access to, a PC or laptop with internet access so you can complete the course.

Conditions

You must complete the approved course within the timeline stipulated by the course convenors and as agreed to by the ANZSI Council.

ANZSI will pay the scholarship funds as follows:

  • 50% on receipt of proof of enrolment
  • 50% on receipt of proof of successful completion of the course program.

Recommended indexing educational programs

  • Indexing: Theory and Application (University of California Berkeley Extension)

This online course teaches “the fundamentals of writing, editing and delivering back-of-the book indexes to publishing clients”, as well as embedded and web indexing. Find further information about the course.

  • Training in Indexing (Modules A and B) (Society of Indexers (UK))

This online course consists of four assessed modules plus a practical indexing assignment. Find further information about the course.

  • Other courses will be considered by the scholarship committee as part of the application process.
