IPEd
By Deborah Shaw AE

Welcome to a new year! I hope you were able to enjoy some time off over Christmas and New Year. I certainly did.

In December I took on the role of Editors ANZ branch president. For those who missed the email or who may not be familiar with me, I’m Deborah. I live in Ōtepoti Dunedin. I joined IPEd in 2020, then joined the EdANZ committee in 2021.

I am keen to build upon the excellent work of our former president, Caroline Simpson, and the members who set up the branch in 2019. Thank you to Caroline for her encouragement and support over the last couple of years. It’s been much appreciated! A big thank you to all the committee members past and present for all your fantastic work in setting up EdANZ and giving it a solid foundation. And thank you to the current committee for encouraging me to take this step.

Being a member of IPEd and EdANZ has provided me with a supportive community of people who get what I do (my partner can cope with only so many anecdotes about grammar and writing). I’ve really enjoyed my last few years on the committee and working with a bunch of great people. We have different backgrounds and focus on various aspects of editing and communication, and that diversity provides us with a variety of perspectives.

I look forward to continuing my work on the committee and advocating for Aotearoa New Zealand editors. I very much appreciate your continued membership and welcome your comments and suggestions.

The best place to contact me is edanz.president@iped-editors.org.

Ngā mihi,
Deborah
