IPEd

From the president

Hi all,

Our social events are back. In March and April we’ve got several opportunities for EdsQ members to catch up in person (i.e. pants not optional). After our annual January picnic was once again foiled by the pandemic, we’re giving it another crack, along with a social lunch and some end-of-week drinks. All the details are on the IPEd events page. I look forward to seeing you in three dimensions!

We are always on the lookout for people to get involved with EdsQ and IPEd business. Queensland branch members contribute significantly to IPEd’s agenda through committee and working party activity. It’s a great way to know what’s happening in our professional organisation and support the advancement and recognition of our profession.

We are very fortunate that both the current Chair, Ruth Davies AE, and previous IPEd Chair, Kerry Davies AE, are members of the EdsQ branch committee. Kerry is also chair of the Pay Rates Working Party, and both are members of the Standing Committee on Awards and Prizes and the Communication and Style Standing Committee (which also includes EdsQ Communication Officer Julia Sudull, and me as chair).

EdsQ members are involved in every IPEd committee and working party. Our Events and Professional Development Officers Ian Mathieson and Kayt Duncan are the co-chair of the Standing Committee on Professional Development and a member of the Accessibility Initiative Working Party, respectively. Charlotte Cottier AE is our Accreditation Board representative and a member of the Standing Committee on Academic Editing.

Having so many members of our committee involved in the organisation helps us represent our branch members, especially with our membership spread across a huge geographic area. If you’re interested in hearing about what’s happening, or in getting involved, we’d love to chat to you at a members meeting or at one of our upcoming social events.

Regards,

Christine Atkinson

EdsQ President

Au Revoir 2021? Let’s make it farewell!

EdsQ End of Year Dinner 2021

Brisbane members from the Qld Branch share a laugh at the end-of-year dinner at Southbank. December 2021

After a year of socially distanced interaction across the nation, we were fortunate to still hold end-of-year dinners around our great state. While COVID-19 still dominates the local news and drains the energy of our frontline workers, there is the promise that 2022 will permit social soiree certainty once again. Until then, our speaker presentations will remain predominantly online, and our social calendar slightly lighter than we would hope. But watch this space, in case all that changes and the air is free to share again. In the meantime, enjoy the memory of our Brisbane members out farewelling the 2021 year. Give them a wave, Queensland!
