Annual reports can be daunting for editors, writers and project managers. On 29 April 2025, we were joined by Kristilee Ransley, who specialises in not only editing, but bringing annual reports to life, making them something that people want to read. The event attracted freelance editors as well as representatives from the public and private sectors.
The process of creating an annual report is layered and multifaceted. Whether you’re onboard as an author, editor, proofreader or project manager (or a combination of all or some of those things!), having a handle on key aspects can make the process smoother and less stressful – and result in a finished product that doesn’t just tick a compliance box, but works as a powerful communication tool.
In the session, Kristilee took us through five practical tips:
- define the scope of your role, confirm the style and know the audience
- consider timelines, structure and flow, and version control
- make it visually engaging
- be precise – fact-check, cross-check and check again
- make it accessible.
Kristilee generously provided registrants with her detailed PowerPoint slides, which include useful links and resources.
