IPEd

From the committee

by Carolyn Page AE

The Editors NSW committee met via Zoom on 10 February 2026, with 8 in attendance. Emily Halloran AE chaired the meeting, as the chairing role continues to be shared among committee members.

The committee returned to its discussion of roles in the branch and on the committee. Two expressions of interest had been received to fill the vacant role of Zoom support assistant.

The committee agreed that the vacancy and availability of candidates might provide an opportunity to broaden the role to a more flexible “events officer” to support Presentations Coordinator Dr Jennifer Rowland AE. Members discussed how this role might function within the committee and agreed that it would be useful to find out about similar positions at other branches.

We also decided to liaise with other branches about their arrangements for scheduling and collecting money for branch networking dinners.

While IPEd Board-level discussions about organisational structure, including annual branch meetings (ABMs), are ongoing, it was agreed that Editors NSW would tentatively schedule its next ABM for 4 August 2026.

Ideas were also canvassed for potential presentation topics to be held in 2026 including linguistics (syntax/grammar), and the legal implications of using material found or generated by AI.
