Committee report

Hi all

I don’t know about you but I’m currently wondering how we’re already two months into 2021. Remember when 2020 seemed like it was going to be a future of hoverboards and flying cars? And instead it gave us a plague. Ripped off!

But here we are suddenly already well into 2021. I’m very pleased to say our EdsQ speaker events are off to a fabulous start. We had an excellent event with literary agent Deborah Golvan in February via Zoom, which meant not only was our speaker able to beam in from elsewhere but so was our audience. Our events maven Ian has done some back-of-the-envelope calculations and found about a third of the attendees were from Brisbane, another third from other Queensland locales, and the final third from interstate. Brilliant.

Our events and professional development team Ian, Kayt and Lee have played around with the format of our events this year to try to maximise the networking opportunities for all members, not just those who can gather at our library hall in Brisbane. Our March event is a regional members social chat, and we’re also looking at a virtual trivia night and a debate, interspersed with in-person social events and speaker presentations.

In committee news, our membership is currently 265. So far this year we’ve had eight new associate members: Danikka Taylor, Shirley Gillatt, Gillian Bell, Geoffrey Collins, Katie Danaher, Linda Baker, Eva Robinson and Tina Higgins. We’ve also been joined by two new student members, Kelley Perry and Deborah Cook. Emily Gleeson has upgraded to professional membership.

Congratulations also to the 10 Queensland members who passed the accreditation exam.

See you on the Zoom.

Christine
