Next steps for membership survey

By the time you read this, many of you will have been contacted by one of our committee members to talk about what you want from your membership and where you would like the committee to put its energy and effort. If we haven’t got to you yet, don’t worry — we aren’t far off.

As you know, our members are spread out from the Far North to the south of the South Island. Some of you have editing lives that exist entirely online. But even those of us in the middle of the largest city in New Zealand are pleased to talk to a fellow editor.

It has been a delight to talk to you and hear your opinions. There have been some thoughtful replies for us to mull over. Mostly, though, we have enjoyed hearing your voices and appreciated your willingness to take the time to talk.

After we have spoken to you all, we’ll move onto the next step: taking your input and using that to set our strategic aims. You’ll hear about the final decisions in a month or so.

See you soon online or in person.

Dunedin editors lunch, 16 April 2021
The inaugural EdANZ Dunedin editors lunch was a wonderful opportunity for editors working in Otago and South Canterbury to get together and share notes. Several of those present travelled some distance (more than three hours in one case), proving just how welcome these events are. While Zoom hui may take up less of the working day, nothing beats meeting colleagues face to face.

Over a delicious lunch at Nova Café, we talked about the different and very varied areas we work in and the paths we have travelled to reach our current positions. We then moved on to talking about PD opportunities, including the forthcoming conference, as well as websites and marketing, the effects of COVID-19 on workflow, and the ongoing discussions in the editing community about the use of inclusive language. It was great to escape work for a few hours and forge new friendships. We are all looking forward to the next catch-up in a few months — watch this space.
