Networking event report: Mid-year dinner

By Ruth Power

Editors NSW members, familiar and new, enjoyed a cosy mid-winter dinner for 8 at our new favourite spot – Searock Grill at Circular Quay. The effort required to attend on such a wild and woolly winter evening was rewarded with great company and conversation. Afterwards, we all made it home safe, and eventually dry, albeit with a few delays and detours.

Over a relaxed and delicious meal, we connected over stories of life as an editor, and numerous topics beyond.

For braving the inclement weather, we were rewarded with lovely raffle prizes – the choice of a book from Simon & Schuster, or a Macquarie dictionary and thesaurus voucher from Pan Macmillan Australia. Thank you so much to these generous donors for making our night.

We look forward to seeing our NSW editor colleagues again soon at future networking events.

Networking event report: Editors lunch, Norwest Sydney

By Sabina Belli

On 18 July, a cold and blustery day (perfect for staying indoors), we gathered for lunch at the cosy Lakeside Cafe in Norwest, in the Sydney’s Hills district. Five of us made the journey from nearby suburbs and as far afield as southwest Sydney, all keen for good food and great company.

Our group brought together diverse backgrounds, including science, Japanese language, primary education, analytics and, of course, editing. The food was delicious, from the classic cafe favourites to the hearty potato and leek soup special. And the coffee? Terrific as always.

Conversation flowed easily as we shared updates on our editing projects, business ventures and career transitions. It was a relaxed and engaging afternoon, full of insights, laughter and the pleasure of meeting new people.

It was a wonderful way to connect, recharge and enjoy the company of like-minded colleagues. We’re already looking forward to the next get-together.
