This update reports on the IPEd Board meeting of 16 March 2026, linking to our 5 strategic priorities.
1 Standards
The Accreditation Board recently advised members of its decision to postpone the exam scheduled for August 2026. The AB is working hard to confirm new details for the exam and related workshops.
AB members are also involved in IPEd’s newest working party – Online Professional and Accredited Learning (OPAL) – which is investigating options for an online learning platform to expand our PD offerings. As you might imagine, this is a big task for a small organisation, but we are cautiously optimistic.
2 Membership
Several membership initiatives are in train for 2026, which happens to be IPEd’s 10th anniversary year. More details will be released over the coming weeks, but we look forward to celebrating IPEd with you during the year.
3 Support for the profession
We congratulate the Mentoring Standing Committee on securing a grant from the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund. This will go towards targeted training for our wonderful cohort of mentors. Funding has also been secured for our awards and prizes program in 2026–27, which is more great news.
As a belated note from our February meeting, we can confirm that the 2027 IPEd conference will be held virtually. This model boosts accessibility but we realise it removes the option of in-person networking so we will be looking at ways to connect remotely. We thank the branches for continuing to host excellent local networking events.
4 Focus for the organisation
The Board is delighted to welcome Donald Ritchie as the new director appointed by Editors Victoria. He brings legal, governance and risk experience to the role.
IPEd has begun the transition away from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365. If your IPEd Gmail inbox has seemed unusually quiet this week, it’s likely you are no longer receiving new emails there. Please log in to Microsoft Office as soon as you can, using the details in Nicole’s emails from 9 March. For help, please contact members@iped-editors.org.
For now, we are retaining our Zoom licence for existing events, but these will move to Teams in due course. If you have any questions about events, please contact Jean (events@iped-editors.org), ideally well in advance so she has time to resolve any issues.
5 Advocacy and education
CEO Karen Lee and others have been busy with international outreach lately. We are liaising with various editing counterparts around the world to discuss AI and diversity, equity and inclusion, among other topics of interest.
Valuable conversations are also happening closer to home, such as with the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators.
