Many IPEd members will remember what it felt like at the beginning – learning the craft, trying to understand the profession and working out where to go next. For students and recent graduates in our community, that moment is now.
Student membership is one of the ways IPEd supports the transition from learner to practitioner, from novice to veteran. It offers a first connection into the profession through events, mentoring, professional development and access to an international network of practising editors. It also helps make visible the range of pathways available across publishing, academia, government, corporate work and beyond.
As Editors Victoria Student Advisor Duncan Hale reflects:
I joined IPEd to open the door into the world of editing. I wanted to meet, and be inspired by, professional editors of all different sorts, and learn about the different pathways and opportunities ahead of me after tertiary study. I’ve already learnt so much from IPEd members – there are futures possible which I couldn’t have comprehended without access to a network of accredited and experienced editors.
For educators, student membership offers a simple way to connect students with the profession they’re preparing to enter. For experienced editors, it’s an opportunity to support and shape the next generation.
