From Carolyn Page AE and Elisabeth Thomas, NSW committee

The Editors NSW committee met via Zoom on 9 December 2025, with 6 in attendance. Positions for the coming year were formally allocated:

  • Russell Noakes – Budget Officer
  • Elisabeth Thomas – News Editor
  • Dr Marita Smith AE – Secretary
  • Jennifer Rowland AE – Presentations Coordinator
  • Carolyn Page AE – News Writer
  • Ruth Power – Networking Coordinator
  • Keely Mewett – Professional Development Officer

We also have 2 ex-officio committee members (whose terms are separate from the ABM):

  • Justine Dixon Cooper AE – IPEd Director (NSW)
  • Emily Halloran AE – Accreditation Board Delegate (NSW)

No branch president was elected; the committee chair position will be shared among committee members. (As Russell Noakes wryly observed, “the great thing about not having a branch president is that we all get a turn at chairing!”)

Marita Smith, Russell Noakes and Elisabeth Thomas were elected as the branch executive.

The committee agreed to continue meeting on a bi-monthly schedule, with the next meeting to be held on 10 February 2026.

The annual end-of-year branch dinner at Foys Kirribilli was a success, with 20 attending. Door prizes awarded on the night, kindly donated by HarperCollins and Pan Macmillan, were well received.

The committee discussed the coming year’s approach to professional development and networking, including the roles of branches and the IPEd Standing Committee on Professional Development (SCPD).

New and returning committee members and some branch members were thanked for their work and for their commitment to members and the profession. The committee also discussed ideas for, and changes to, ways of working as IPEd moves ahead.

Networking event report: Editors NSW end-of-year dinner

By Ruth Power, Networking Coordinator

On Tuesday 2 December 2025, a perfect Sydney summer evening, Editors NSW members enjoyed a delightful dinner at Foys Kirribilli in the historic Sydney Flying Squadron club, our usual end-of-year destination in recent years.

There was a great turnout of 20, and we upped the male attendance by 100% this year – from 1 to 2! We began the festivities with drinks on the upper deck where the excitement of connecting with editor friends, new and old, seemed to outrank any interest in admiring Sydney Harbour’s spectacular Careening Cove. Over dinner in the dining room – a delicious feast of shared entrees and mains – conversation (and wine) flowed as we shared tips, experiences and stories of life as an editor and beyond.

All attendees won a lucky door prize, and much appreciation was expressed by the group for the generous book donations by HarperCollins and a Macquarie dictionary & thesaurus online subscription/renewal voucher, donated by Pan Macmillan Australia. We are extremely grateful to HarperCollins and Pan Macmillan for their kind support.

We can’t wait to reconnect with our NSW editor buddies again in 2026, at future networking events and our annual mid-year dinner.
