From the Accreditation Board

Why bother with accreditation?

An accreditation exam can feel daunting whether you have been working successfully as an editor for 3 years or 23 years. If you already have clients, experience and professional judgement, why would you sacrifice the time and money needed to sit this exam?

Accreditation builds your confidence

It is no secret that editors are perfectionists, but this also means we may not always be confident in our decisions, especially when pressed for time.

But sitting the exam is a good reminder that you can work methodically on complex material, making strong editorial choices, under pressure. And passing the exam is an external confirmation that your skills meet internationally recognised standards. Even just studying for the exam sharpens your skills, filling in gaps and refreshing the knowledge you might not use every day.

Accredited editors say the exam gave them the confidence boost they needed to change careers, write more and market themselves.

Accreditation builds others’ confidence in you

Accreditation is the clear, independent sign for employers and clients that you meet an international benchmark. You are competent, professional and credible.

This assurance for employers and clients can work in your favour when you are looking to be recruited, promoted or accepted for a tender.

Editing can be competitive, so why not give yourself the edge with an internationally recognised accreditation?

When is the exam?

This year’s exam is on Monday 24 August.

Registrations open on 24 February, with earlybird registrations closing on 14 June. But you can still register until 24 July. Check the Exam registration page for more information.
