IPEd

We speak with IPEd’s new events officer, Jean Cheney, and find out what led her to IPEd, what part of the role she’s most excited about, and her life outside IPEd.

Can you tell us a little bit about you?

I’m based in central Victoria in a small regional town. This has been a recent move as I grew up in Melbourne and spent considerable time in the Macedon Ranges. When I’m not attached to my laptop and desk, I’m out enjoying life with Toby, my 14-year-old rescue dog, and my 14 chickens!

I’ve had a really oddball career history. I’m the type of person who looks at a role and says, “Yeah I can do that!” Previously I was a full-time travel blogger and now am a part-time content creator, around other client digital marketing work and ARC [Advance Reader Copy] reading for independent authors.

I’ve worked in a variety of roles from international horse transport to finance – and most recently in industry-based associations, which I absolutely adore. It makes work more of a joy and less of a chore when you’re aiming for member value versus shareholder value.

Welcome to IPEd! How are you settling in?

It’s been a delightful whirlwind of end-of-year celebrations, workshops and more. It’s been fantastic meeting everyone at this hectic time of year.

IPEd’s new events officer, Jean Cheney.

What aspects of the role are currently exciting you most, and what projects are you most looking forward to?

The people are the best part. From my fellow IPEd staff to the fantastic volunteers.

I’m really looking forward to working with SCPD on professional development and to integrating some new technology so upcoming workshops are more engaging for participants.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Iraq, Iran and some of the surrounding countries in an epic adventure. I was fortunate enough to experience the warmth and grace of the Iraqi people when I visited in 2023 and have always wanted to return to see more.

And finally, what is something most people don’t know about you?

I have very big feelings against iceberg lettuce.
