There will not be an IPEd Accreditation Examination in 2010 for two reasons.
1. The Accreditation Board requires an optimum number of candidates to make the exam financially viable. A larger pool of candidates is available in an 18-24 month period than in a single year.
2. The Accreditation Board is investigating the possibility of including an onscreen component in the exam. Considerable research and testing are required to develop this mode of delivery in a way that is equitable with previous exams; this will delay the next exam until 2011.
The Board anticipates that the third Accreditation Exam will be held towards the middle of 2011, subject to sufficient registrations being received.
Costs of the 2011 exam will be finalised closer to the exam time. 2009 exam fees were:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
· Non-society member sitting the exam for the first time: $590; early bird $565
· Society member sitting the exam for the first time: $490; early bird $470
· 2008 registrant re-sitting the exam: $190
· 2008 registrant who deferred sitting the exam last year: $390, early bird $375
Although the Board hopes to keep fees at around the same amounts, the costs of delivering an exam completely or partly onscreen may well be higher, in which case the fees will also need to be increased.
The exam is designed for competent editors with at least three years’ full-time editing experience or equivalent. This is not intended as an entry-level exam.
