The Institute of Professional Editors Limited (IPEd) exists to advance the profession of editing, by planning and implementing national initiatives—an accreditation scheme, promotion and communication campaigns, training and mentoring—and other activities to support Australian societies of editors and their members, and editors in general.

Publications
IPEd has produced two publications to date: Australian Standards for Editing Practice and Guidelines for Editing Research Theses.

Accreditation
IPEd's most important activity in 2009 is the second Australian examination for professional accreditation of editors.

Professional Development
Member societies conduct workshops, seminars and residentials according to members' needs.
