The first Australian editing exam

The Institute of Professional Editors (IPEd) has initiated the development of an accreditation scheme for Australian editors. The scheme will be two-tiered, providing for accreditation at a level of competence (Accredited Editor) and at a senior level (Advanced Accredited Editor).

The date for the first editing exam has been set for Saturday 26 July 2008. The three-hour exam is based on Australian Standards for Editing Practice and will earn successful candidates the rank of Accredited Editor (AE). It is expected that an editor with two to three years' editing experience or equivalent will pass the exam. The preliminary notification first Australian editing exam has further details on the exam, which will be handwritten and delivered simultaneously in each state/territory capital.

The Exam Coordinator is appointed by the Accreditation Board to oversee the administration of the exam for accreditation of editors. Interested editors should read the brief on the position exam coordinator. Further information may be obtained by contacting Karen Disney, Chair of the IPEd Accreditation Board, on 08 8363 3279 (h) or email karen.disney@kbr.com.
